We have written about energy efficient construction techniques, renewable heating systems, and masonry heaters in Home Power Magazine, and have had homes featured in Countryside & Small Stock Journal, Wisconsin Trails, Builder/Architect, and the American Solar Energy Society’s publication Solar Today.

We give workshops on sustainable building, construction techniques for the super-insulated house, passive solar design, and masonry heaters for the Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA), Real Goods Institute, Affordable Comfort, and the Wisconsin Green Building Alliance.

Gimme Shelter has been a corporate sponsor of the world’s largest renewable energy event, the Renewable Energy & Sustainable Living Fair (sponsored by the MREA), since the first fair was held in 1990.  Mark is a founding member of the MREA and has been a board member since its inception in 1990.

Gimme Shelter is a member of the Wisconsin Green Building Alliance, Green Built Homes, RENEW Wisconsin, American Solar Energy Society, Masonry Heater Association of North American, ENERGY STAR Homes Passive Solar Advisory Committee, and the MREA . We are sponsors of National Public Radio and contribute to Masons on a Mission as well as numerous local charities and organizations.

Each year, Gimme Shelter participates in the Wisconsin Tour of Solar Buildings by giving tours of its office and shop.  And homes built and/or designed by Gimme Shelter are on the concurrent Tour of Solar Homes.
