Nandrea Renovation
In this bungalow-style house located in Stevens Point, we renovated a downstairs bathroom, and added a west-side dormer as part of an attic renovation to provide a loft office space.
West side of house before new dormer construction.
Opening up the roof to frame the new dormer. TJIs will be used as rafters to get enough insulation into the roof system. The existing floor framing was built up and sheathed with ¾” pine to accommodate the new use.
The new dormer framed out. 2x6 walls are strapped to create 7” wall cavities for blown-in fiberglass insulation.
Hanging plasterboard was a complex task!
The railing was fabricated by Bob Konkol of Bob's Plumbing & Heating from 2" copper pipe. Gimme completed the cable rail installation..
The new dormer creates headroom for the ladder access and the window lets in plenty of western light.
Access to the new loft is by a custom-built ladder ascending from the dining area, seen at left. The area underneath the ladder was framed in to create space in the bathroom for the mirror & sink area (see below). Shelves (at left) were built into the dining room side of the bump-out.
Bathroom tile job complete. The new window is manufactured by Pella and the frame is moisture-proof fiberglass.
Glass tile "frames" the mirror. Tile installation by Joe Muzynowski of Midstate Tile in Weston, WI
