Dieterich Home
This 1,800 s/ft. single story, passive solar home was designed with an eye towards accessibility for its owners as they near retirement. There are no stairs in the house and doorways are all wheelchair accessible. Foundation is slab on grade with in-floor radiant heat supplied by a high efficiency, modulating boiler (98% efficient in heating mode). Exterior is steel siding and stone columns. A pond was created on-site to acquire fill for the house location and to attract wildlife.
The higher thermal mass of ceramic tile on concrete slab moderates temperature swings by absorbing solar radiation during the winter months and moderating heat gain in the summer.
Suntube skylights provide additional sunlight in the living/dining area.
Wrought iron towel bars were crafted by a local blacksmith.
