Mark Klein and John Brown will discuss the various design and construction decisions that were made during the planning and construction stages of four Gimme Shelter Homes. This rolling workshop will visit small and mid-size new construction, as well as a deep energy retrofit / addition. All the homes to be visited, have been built in the previous ten years, and the tour will incorporate the history of each building’s energy use and Owner experience.

Intro to Masonry Heaters – 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

This workshop will cover the history and theory of heater design, modern adaptations, construction methods, veneer treatments, hydronic heating options and design strategies. The MREA masonry heater will be fired, and participants will follow the combustion process through the day.
